Late on Tuesday, reports emerged claiming that Chelsea had held talks with Barcelona superstar Frenkie de Jong and offered him a massive contract worth €18 million per year to lure him away from Spotify Camp Nou.
However, a fresh update from ESPN’s Samuel Marsden states that there has been no such offer made as Chelsea have not held any talks whatsoever with the Netherlands international regarding personal terms.
De Jong has been one of the most talked-about players this summer, with Manchester United and Chelsea both showing interest in the 25-year-old midfielder. The Netherlands international, however, has been firm on his stance of not wanting to leave the club.
The Dutchman and his partner are settled in Barcelona and do not wish to leave any time soon, while the player is intent on achieving success with the club after having failed to win many trophies in his first three seasons.
So, despite having been put under pressure by the club, de Jong has not shown any indication that he would consider an exit from Spotify Camp Nou before the summer transfer window ends.
And, Samuel Marsden claims that there has been no change in the situation at this point. Despite rumours suggesting otherwise, Chelsea have not even spoken to de Jong as he has never opened the door for a possible departure from Barça this summer.
So, unless something drastic happens over the last couple of days in the transfer window, de Jong looks all set to continue as a Barcelona player.
However, the Blaugrana and the Blues could be involved in a couple of transfer deals before the deadline as Marcos Alonso is expected to swap Stamford Bridge for Spotify Camp Nou while Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is likely to be headed the other way.
