Christian Eriksen transfer news: Man Utd dealt hammer blow to leave Ten Hag’s transfer plans in tatters

Christian Eriksen has reportedly followed in the footsteps of Jurrien Timber and rejected a move to Manchester United leaving Erik ten Hag’s transfer plans in tatters.

Ajax defender Timber turned away from a move to Old Trafford after talks with Holland boss Loui van Gaal. The 21-year-old was advised against a move to the Premier League because it would jeopardise his chances of a place in Holland’s World Cup squad.

Now Ten Hag is understood to have suffered further rejection after 30-year-old Eriksen turned down a move to United.

The Guardian report that top target Eriksen has handed the Dutch boss “further rejection” and decided to remain at Brentford or return to Tottenham.

The news will come as a huge blow to Ten Hag’s recruitment plans. According to De Telegraaf,  the former Ajax boss was desperate to land Eriksen along with Frenkie de Jong in a bid to revamp the club’s style of play.

Manchester United had hoped to persuade the Denmark playmaker to move north after a super six-month spell with Brentford.

The Bees had hoped Eriksen would sign a contract extension, while Spurs were also said to be in the running.

Tottenham go cold on Eriksen

But Tottenham have gone cold on a move for the former Inter Milan star, according to Football.london.

Antonio Conte had said that he would like to see the midfielder back at Tottenham. However, per the report, Fabio Paratici has not followed up that initial interest. And club officials are now “distancing” themselves from the speculation.

It leaves Eriksen’s future somewhat up in the air.

Last week Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla claimed Eriksen had decided to leave Brentford.

Thomas Frank was desperate to keep the playmaker and he said he was ‘convinced’ the player would stay last month. But despite a record-breaking offer Eriksen had decided to pursue another challenge.

Just where that will be remains unclear. But Manchester United will be hugely upset that their offer has been swatted away by Eriksen who had an Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator (ICD) fitted after collapsing at Euro 2020.

It leaves Ten Hag still looking for his first signing with departures dominating their transfer business to date.
