Thomas Tuchel is 'thought to be very interested' in becoming Manchester United manager this summer if they part ways with Erik ten Hag, according to a report.

Bayern Munich confirmed in February that Tuchel would stand down as head coach at the end of the 2023/24 season, citing 'sporting realignment' as a major part of their decision.

Though Bayern lost out on the Bundesliga title to Bayer Leverkusen, who remain unbeaten in all competitions, they have at least reached the semi-finals of the Champions League and Tuchel's stock as a manager remains high.

The 50-year-old has been heavily linked with the United job in recent weeks, and the Telegraph report he is keen on a move to Old Trafford should a vacancy arise.

Tuchel previously worked in England with Chelsea, winning the Blues their second-ever Champions League back in 2021. His sacking in September 2022 and their decision to replace him with Graham Potter was seen as controversial, with Chelsea going on to finish 12th that season.

Ten Hag's job at United is under scrutiny following their horrendous 2023/24 season, which hit a new low with a 4-0 thrashing at the hands of Crystal Palace on Monday night.

United have dropped to eighth in the Premier League table with under two weeks of the campaign remaining and are at risk of recording their worst finish since 1990 when they came 13th. Since the Premier League broke away from the Football League, their lowest return was seventh during the 2013/14 campaign - their first season in the post-Sir Alex Ferguson era.

Ironically, Ten Hag has been touted as a potential successor to Tuchel at Bayern having previously worked for their reserve team.

The Telegraph add that England boss Gareth Southgate is admired by United's new shareholders INEOS and is on good terms with their director of sport Sir Dave Brailsford, while he has prior experience working with the club's incoming sporting director Dan Ashworth.
