Chelsea are being urged to make a move for Robert Lewandowski after the striker revealed he has requested a move away from Bayern Munich.
Chelsea are in the hunt for a new striker as doubts surround the future of Romelu Lukaku. Thomas Tuchel looks set to move the Belgium international on this summer following a disappointing season. Lukaku has failed to live up to the hefty price tag, struggling to play games and score goals.
If he does leave then Chelsea will move to to sign a replacement. And according to European football expert Julien Laurens, Lewandowski would be a great signing.
The Poland international has one year remaining on his contract. However speaking after the final game of the Bundesliga season against Wolfsburg on Saturday, he suggested it could be his last for the club.
“It could well be my last game for Bayern. I can’t say 100 per cent, but it could be. We have to find the best solution for the club and me,” he told streaming service Viaplay.
Then later he hold Sky Sports that Bayern are aware he will not be signing a contract extension. “I have a year left, but we have to find the best solution for both sides,” he added.
That solution could result in him leaving in the summer if an offer comes in. Bayern sports director Hasan Salihamidzic also told Sky Sports that Lewandowski has made his intentions clear. But insisted the player is under contract and nothing changes.
However if a big offer comes in Bayern may have a change of heart. It is a chance to cash in and recoup some cash before he leaves for free next year.
Barcelona are known to be keen and could offer him a three-year deal. But if he does become available Laurens says Chelsea should also make an offer. His arrival would help close the gap on Manchester City and Liverpool, he believes.
