Paris Saint-Germain to sanction Georginio Wijnaldum summer exit

Gini Wijnaldum is likely to leave Paris Saint-Germain this summer

Paris Saint-Germain will allow Georginio Wijnaldum to leave the club, 90min understands.

The 31-year-old moved to the French capital on a three-year deal last summer, after PSG gazumped Barcelona for his signature at the last minute - the Dutchman was available on a free transfer having been an influential figure at Liverpool for the previous five years.

However, Wijnaldum's time at PSG has been disappointing and he wasn't able to claim a regular place in the first team under Mauricio Pochettino.

Wijnaldum started just 18 games for the Parisians with only nine of those coming in 2022 - and PSG are now planning for life without the former Newcastle and Feyenoord man.

New football advisor Luis Campos is putting a number of plans in place and one transfer he's keen to get over the line is that of Renato Sanches from Lille, who had previously looked set to join AC Milan.

But it now looks like the Portuguese midfielder will remain in Ligue 1 to reunite with Campos, and his arrival at the Parc des Princes will help facilitate an exit for Wijnaldum.

PSG would prefer to sell Wijnaldum on a permanent basis, but given he has two years remaining on his contract and is on sizeable wages, a loan move looks likely.

There is interest in Italy, Germany and Spain, but 90min understands that a move back to England is at the forefront of Wijnaldum's thinking.

Leicester City are one of the Premier League clubs who are showing a keen interest, while Everton, Wolves and West Ham are also keeping close tabs on the situation.

His former clubs Liverpool and Newcastle have both been linked, but as yet neither are believed to have made contact.
