Raphinha transfer latest: Arsenal man to play leading role in talks as Fabrizio Romano reveals Mikel Arteta desire for Leeds star

Arsenal are seemingly growing in confidence they can secure the signing of Raphinha after a report claimed a Gunners star can play a leading role in convincing him to sign.

The Brazilian star finds himself one of the hottest properties in the transfer market this summer. After an excellent season for Leeds, Raphinha finds himself the subject of intense speculation and a player of desire for a plethora of clubs.

For a long time it appeared that Raphinha was heading to Barcelona. The Brazilian star was seemingly intent on signing for the LaLiga giants, with his agent, Deco, also pushing for the move.

But Barcelona’s failure to meet Leeds’ asking price – together with complications over Ousmane Dembele’s situation – appears to have ruled them out of the running.

However, Raphinha remains very much a man in demand with a plethora of Premier League clubs also seemingly keen. Indeed, the likes of Chelsea, Tottenham and West Ham are all reportedly keen on his services.

However, it is Arsenal who have emerged from the chasing pack to become favourites for his signature. They have seen an initial offer rejected by Leeds for Raphinha last week.

However, an increased bid appears to be in the works from Arsenal. Just what the amount that offer will be for remains to be seen. Reports, though, state Leeds are hoping for nearer £65m for the player.

Having Leeds accept the bid might be only half the battle, that said.

Dreams can come true with help of Gabriel

The player seemingly wants to play in the Champions League and the Gunners, for 2022/23 at least, can only offer Europa League.

However, Arsenal hope the presence of one player in particular can play an influential role in securing his signature.

Indeed, as a current member of la Selecao, he is joined in the ranks by two current Gunners stars in Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Magalhaes.

Indeed, the latter is a very close personal friend of Raphinha. As such, he will reportedly play a significant role in convincing him to sign.

Speaking last year, Gabriel reflected on his relationship with Raphinha.

“We had a Whatsapp group that we were always in contact since our Avai days (they played their together),” the central defender explained. “We shared the same accommodation. We’re very good friends.”

Either way, it seems the next seven days will be crucial in deciding the player’s future. Arsenal’s offer may yet spark some rival offers for the winger. Furthermore, Leeds United also seemingly want clarification in order to help fund their own transfer targets.

Fabrizio Romano reveals Mikel Arteta desire to land Raphinha

One thing that is for certain, is that Gunners boss Mikel Arteta is desperate to sign Raphinha for Arsenal.

Writing in his column for Caught Offside, Fabrizio Romano claims Arteta is ‘really in love with Raphinha’.

“Arsenal have made a first offer turned down by Leeds, while Tottenham are preparing a proposal and Chelsea have explored the situation with a direct call from Todd Boehly. Raphinha had given his ok to Barcelona as a priority for months but is now really open to listening to English clubs. The decision will take a few days.

“In my opinion, it would be nice to keep seeing him in the Premier League. And there is a very good chance for that to happen. For example, I know that Arteta is really in love with Raphinha. But Tottenham and Chelsea are absolutely in the race.

“Of all the clubs involved, I think Arsenal need him the most. I revealed in one of my earlier columns that Nicolas Pepe is available this summer. And Raphinha is the kind of talent the Gunners need to replace the disappointing Ivorian forward.”
