Chelsea have suddenly been linked to a new target in recent days, and it’s caused a few fans to look back at some quotes from Pep Guardiola after his Manchester City team played Sporting Club de Lisboa in the Champions League last season:
“Matheus Nunes is one of the best players in the world today,” Guardiola stated.
Well, you can’t ask for much higher praise than that from the world’s greatest manager, even if Guardiola is known for excessive and exaggerated statements – often to the point where you can’t tell if he’s being serious or ironic.
In this case, even if he’s exaggerating pretty heavily, it’s still sincere praise, and it gets us excited for the midfielder – even if we haven’t heard much to convince us that the links are true since they first emerged.
Nunes looks a real talent, with incredible ability on the ball and great physical qualities too. If Pep likes him, we like him too. If only the rumours were more convincing…
