Thomas Tuchel coy on Ronaldo but does ‘not rule out’ signing another forward

Thomas Tuchel is known to often be very diplomatic and wise during his interviews in public, and I believe he has done just that again in his first interview of a new season yesterday.

Of course, with Chelsea currently in LA on pre-season tour, all of this kind of content gets released over night so us English citizens have to spend the morning playing catch up! I guess it’s a great role reversal with our American and other overseas fans used to doing that themselves!

Sources: Chelsea consider Leao, Gnabry, Dybala, and Depay as attacking targets.

Thomas Tuchel did an interview with Sky Sports, and of course, one of the subjects was transfers. Having just confirmed the signing of Raheem Sterling, the big question was will there be any more signings in attack, and perhaps more importantly, was he interested in signing Cristiano Ronaldo?

Tuchel didn’t directly respond to the Ronaldo links, but he did say not to rule out signing another forward this summer.

“I would not rule it out [signing another striker] but right now it is not the priority. The priority right now is defence, it’s not a secret. From there we need to see what’s possible,” said Tuchel.

“We’re competing against the two top teams but Tottenham did a very active and aggressive and early transfer period, they have maybe the strongest squad they ever had with one of the best coaches in the world, Man Utd are never shy of recruiting with a new coach and Arsenal had some big signings already so we need to keep the level up to be competitive.”
