Barcelona are on the lookout for a new right-back this summer but have had to deal with setback after setback in their pursuit of targets.
The Blaugrana first missed out on Cesar Azpilicueta after the veteran decided to continue at Chelsea and signed a new contract. Juan Foyth of Villarreal then became their top target but picked up an injury and is now sidelined for around eight weeks, ruling out him as an option.
A swoop for Thomas Meunier is now being considered, but Borussia Dortmund’s demands for the Belgian international and their reluctance to accept a swap deal involving Sergino Dest have made a move complicated
It has led them to a familiar name in Hector Bellerin. The Arsenal defender is out of favour at the Emirates and will be allowed to leave for a free transfer as he has less than a year left at the club and is no longer needed.
Bellerin, a former La Masia trainee, is keen on a return to Barcelona and is ready to wait until the last day of the transfer window for the Blaugrana to come calling despite having several other proposals on the table, reports Mundo Deportivo.
On top of that, the Spanish international is also willing to take a pay cut in order to ensure that the club do not have any issues with his registration, given their current Financial Fair Play situation with La Liga.
Bellerin spent the last season on loan at Barça’s La Liga rivals Real Betis and enjoyed a solid campaign. At 27, he is still in the prime years of his career and is aware of the demands and the style of play at Barcelona.
And given the financial feasibility of a deal involving him, the former La Masia ace could prove to be the Catalan giants’ best bet to reinforce the right-back spot before the transfer window closes.
