Carabao Cup draw: Chelsea get pick of seven mouth-watering all-Prem ties as holders Liverpool learn fate

Carabao Cup trophy

Manchester City face Chelsea in the pick of the Carabao Cup round three ties, with Liverpool beginning their title defence against Derby County at Anfield.

The Reds made it all the way to the final last season, where they beat the Blues – who travel to the Etihad Stadium to face the reigning Premier League champions.

Meanwhile, Arsenal and Tottenham – who lost their semi-finals – face Brighton and Nottingham Forest respectively.

Manchester United will want a better showing this season than last term, when they lost to West Ham in round three. The Red Devils play Aston Villa at Old Trafford.

The Hammers, who then beat Manchester City in the Carabao Cup, play Championship side Blackburn.

Elsewhere from the Championship, Burnley host Crawley – who beat Fulham on Tuesday – and Bristol City play Lincoln City. Meanwhile, League One Sheffield Wednesday go to Southampton for their third-round clash.

But there are a total of seven all-Premier League ties to look forward to.

Newcastle v Crystal Palace is another, while Leeds play Wolves at Elland Road and Bournemouth host Everton. Leicester and Brentford, the remaining Premier League teams in the hat, play Newport County and Gillingham, respectively.

Stevenage v Charlton and MK Dons v Morecambe round off the draw.

The Carabao Cup third-round ties take place on the week commencing November 7.

Carabao Cup action impresses

On Wednesday, three Premier League sides were involved against opposition lower down the football pyramid.

Leeds beat Barnsley 3-1 at Elland Road, with Mateusz Klich starring. Brighton secured their place in the third-round draw with a comfortable 3-0 win over Forest Green.

Finally, Newcastle came from behind to beat Tranmere amid wholesale changes and Bristol City beat Wycombe.
