Chelsea have completed the signing of Jelena Cankovic from Rosengard ahead of the 2022/23 WSL season.

The midfielder - who had also reportedly attracted interest from WSL rivals Arsenal - has signed a three-year deal with the Blues, keeping her at Kingsmeadow until 2025.

Cankovic is Chelsea's sixth summer signing, following the arrivals of Kadeisha Buchanan, Eve Perisset, Katerina Svitkova, Lucy Watson and Johanna Rytting Kaneryd.

"I am really excited to join Chelsea and it feels great to be able to play in a team with such a winning culture and great players," said Cankovic. "I am looking forward to seeing the fans and playing in front of them."

Cankovic had been with Rosengard since 2019, winning the Damallsvenskan title twice during her time in Sweden.

The 27-year-old had previously represented Vajxo, Ferencvaros, Spartak Subotica and Barcelona, and has won league titles in all four countries that she has played in.

Cankovic has been capped 29 times at international level by Serbia since making her debut in 2013.

She will wear the number 28 shirt at Chelsea during the 2022/23 WSL season, as the Blues attempt to defend their league title for an unprecedented fourth season on the trot.

"Jelena is a top talent who has been developing really, really well in Sweden," added Emma Hayes. "We’ve been monitoring her for some time and we’re absolutely delighted she chose us.

"I think her creativity in the midfield is something that will add to our team. She’s really switched on and I think she’s going to be a wonderful addition."
