Euro Paper Talk: New Man Utd transfer strategy on show as Bundesliga star targeted amid ‘top offer’ claim; Leeds edge closer to striker signing

Manchester United have new plans in the transfer market and are now aiming to sign an attacker from the Bundesliga, Leeds are making strides in their bid to land an Italy international, while Tuesday’s Euro Paper Talk reveals Chelsea’s ploy to capture Frenkie de Jong.

MANCHESTER UNITED SET SIGHTS ON GLADBACH ACE

Manchester United are changing their summer transfer strategy by moving away from the Eredivisie and instead focusing on a Bundesliga player.

The Red Devils have gone after several stars from the Dutch top flight during the current window, at Erik ten Hag’s request.

And they have been successful in landing Lisandro Martinez and Tyrell Malacia, with the pair arriving from Ajax and Feyenoord respectively.

In addition to pursuing Eredivisie stars, Ten Hag has urged United to try and sign players who have previously represented Ajax.

As such, they have tried to bring in Frenkie de Jong from Barcelona and 20-year-old striker Brian Brobbey. However, De Jong is more likely to sign for Chelsea, while Brobbey opted to re-join Ajax from RB Leipzig.

After the shock 4-0 loss to Brentford, Gary Neville slammed United chiefs for simply following Ten Hag’s targets and not having plans of their own.

It seems United have reacted by turning their attention away from the Eredivisie/Dutch market, and setting their sights on the Bundesliga.

As per French outlet Media Foot, United would now like to capture Marcus Thuram from Borussia Monchengladbach.

The four-time France international can play at centre-forward or as a winger on either flank. And he is now in the final 12 months of his Gladbach contract, leading to interest from other clubs.

United are among the list of potential suitors. They ‘appreciate’ Thuram’s ability and are resultantly plotting a move for him.

The 25-year-old shouldn’t cost United too much due to his contract situation. Gladbach need to sell this month, or in January, to prevent him going on a free transfer next summer.

Gladbach sporting director Roland Virkus insists it will take a ‘top offer’ for Thuram to leave the side. Despite this, Virkus will have little choice but to sell for a reduced price if Thuram reveals his desire not to pen a new deal there.

United aren’t the only major European club to hold an interest in Thuram. The report reveals AC Milan rate him too and are keeping tabs on the situation.

Milan have already brought in Charles De Ketelaere this summer though, which makes their need for a new attacker less urgent. Due to this, United are more likely to begin negotiations with Gladbach for Thuram.
