Euro Paper Talk: New method emerges for Man Utd or Chelsea to clinch underappreciated €20m target; Arsenal bidding for one of three midfielders

Barcelona players Gerard Pique, Sergino Dest and Martin Braithwaite

Manchester United and Chelsea are asking about the chance to sign Sergino Dest from Barcelona via a new formula, while Arsenal have a bid in the pipeline for one of three midfielders they admire – all in Monday’s Euro transfer gossip.

SERGINO DEST COULD JOIN CHELSEA OR MAN UTD VIA NEW FORMULA

Chelsea and Manchester United have asked about Barcelona’s Sergino Dest, who might now be available on loan.

Dest has been linked with a Premier League transfer in recent weeks after becoming surplus to requirements at Barcelona. Indeed, he is yet to even make it onto a bench for them this season.

In turn, both Chelsea and Manchester United have been mentioned as potential takers for the full-back. The Blues need more competition for Reece James, while the Red Devils want an upgrade over Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

Although Dest has struggled to cement his place at Barcelona, both clubs seemingly retain a belief that they could get something better out of him. However, there have been claims before that the USA international would be fine with staying where he is.

According to an update from Sport, though, the situation is now changing. Through his selection decisions but also conversations, Barcelona boss Xavi has instructed Dest to leave.

After his recent omissions – and the threat of that trend continuing all season – Dest is now coming around to the idea of departing the Camp Nou. And enquiries from Chelsea and Man Utd have been fielded.

To get their man, they would have to make a more concrete approach than they have already. Barcelona have set an asking price of €20million (a little under £17million).

However, it is growing increasingly difficult for them to fetch such a sum in the final few days of the transfer window. Therefore, they are now considering sanctioning a loan exit for Dest if he approves.

His contract in Catalonia is due to expire in 2025, so they are in no particular panic to get rid of him for good. But they do need to clear some space in their squad after being unable to register new signing Jules Kounde yet.

Hence, either Chelsea or Man Utd could be able to take Dest on loan, which may be favourable for them if they have any doubts about the cost-effectiveness of a permanent deal.
