Liverpool transfer news: Nat Phillips exit to ramp up this week with potential for four bids and fee change

Liverpool defender Nat Phillips could seal a permanent move away from Anfield this week, with Bournemouth and Fulham reportedly pondering bids.

The 25-year-old is back on the fringes of the Reds team following his shock rise to stardom in the 2020/21 campaign. Amid an injury crisis at Liverpool, Phillips stepped up to help steer his club to a top-four Premier League finish.

However, he only played three times for Jurgen Klopp’s side last term. The centre-back then spent the second half of the season on loan at Bournemouth.

Phillips signed a new contract last summer to protect his value and it is Bournemouth who are again chasing Phillips. This time, though, they want him on a permanent deal.

Goal claims that the Cherries are pondering a bid this week alongside fellow promoted side Fulham.

Liverpool want more than £10million for Phillips, a price tag which is currently putting the interested sides off.

Nevertheless, the report adds that Liverpool’s fee could well change given more suitors have arrived on the scene.

Indeed, two Serie A clubs – which the report does not name – are also monitoring Phillips’ transfer situation closely.

Liverpool also feel they should let Phillips leave permanently given he has proved himself and now needs to cement that progress elsewhere.

Fulham boss Marco Silva reportedly admires Phillips’ no-nonsense style. And he thinks the defender could offer his side the fighting spirit needed to dispel relegation fears again this season.

Liverpool and Fulham have strong connections off the pitch, too. They negotiated a deal in January to send Neco Williams on loan to Craven Cottage. Meanwhile, Fabio Carvalho has moved to Anfield from the Cottagers this summer and settled in well in pre-season.

Nat Phillips must get Liverpool exit

It seems only a matter of time before Phillips gets his move away from Liverpool.

Bournemouth or Fulham would be solid options to help advance his career. He would be able to cut his teeth in the Premier League for a full season without fear of losing his place to others.

There is, however, the threat of relegation looming for the Cherries. Fulham are also looking to survive this term after dropping back down to the Championship at the first time of asking the last time they were in the top flight.

The fact that Phillips played for Bournemouth last season would also stand him in good stead.

The centre-back would be able to settle back in straight away and his Premier League know-how could serve the Cherries well in their battle against the drop.
