Manchester United winger Amad Diallo could reportedly join a Ligue 1 side on loan after Erik ten Hag told him he could leave Old Trafford on a temporary basis.
Manchester United spent £19million to bring Diallo to England from Atalanta in January 2021. However, he has only made nine appearances for the Red Devils since then.
The 20-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan at Scottish outfit Rangers. He played 13 times for them, registering three goals.
Diallo has been training with the Manchester United senior squad in pre-season and featured in the friendly against Liverpool. However, did not make Ten Hag’s squad for the Premier League defeats to Brighton or Brentford.
This is because Ten Hag has told United officials that the youngster can go out on loan and pick up senior experience elsewhere this season.
As such, Diallo was put on the loan market. And a French team has now come in for his services.
As per Football Insider, Nice would like to capture the forward on a season-long loan. They have already made a couple of impressive signings this summer, landing Kasper Schmeichel from Leicester City and former Arsenal star Aaron Ramsey on a free transfer.
And they hope to bolster their attacking ranks by taking Diallo, a full Ivory Coast international, to the Allianz Riviera stadium.
Amad Diallo loan reliant on Man Utd approval
Football Insider do not reveal whether United would be open to this loan switch for their player. Presumably though, they would be happy for him to join Nice.
After all, they are a decent team who generally finish in the top eight in Ligue 1. Last term they managed fifth, which means they will compete in this season’s Europa Conference League.
United will probably ask Nice to cover most, or all, of Diallo’s wages. He earns £28,000 a week, according to Salary Sport.
This should be an achievable price for Nice to match as their top earner is Danish forward Kasper Dolberg, who takes home £49k every seven days.
Diallo will probably jump at the chance to join them. While he would like to make the United squad, he has little chance of doing so amid competition from the likes of Jadon Sancho, Marcus Rashford, Anthony Elanga and others.
Diallo will aim to impress in France before potentially forcing his way into Ten Hag’s plans next season.
Meanwhile, United’s move for a Borussia Dortmund star is under threat from Barcelona, according to reports in Spain.
