Even as we inch closer and closer to the summer transfer deadline, rumours of Manchester City superstar Bernardo Silva potentially joining La Liga behemoths Barcelona refuse to go away.
The 28-year-old has been a top target for Barça all through the summer, but a move has been complicated by Man City’s €100 million price tag, as well as the Catalans’ own player registration issues.
Despite that, reports continue to persist about Barcelona making an attempt to sign the Portuguese international in the final week of the summer window.
However, Manchester City CEO, Ferran Soriano, has tried to put an end to all the speculations and rumours by stating that there is no chance Silva will leave the club, with the Citizens’ transfer business for the summer considered done.
Speaking to TV3 (h/t Fabrizio Romano), Soriano said: “There are no discussions or talks for Bernardo Silva. There is no Bernardo case. Manchester City’s market can be considered closed, it’s over.”
While Soriano’s statements seem to put a definitive end to any hopes of Barcelona signing Silva this summer, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has left the door open for a late move, insisting that the Portuguese international ‘really likes’ Barça.
The 28-year-old was in action when the Catalans took on Man City at Spotify Camp Nou on Wednesday night in a charity match arranged to support research for ALS.
Silva received a great reception from the home support, but unless something drastic happens in the next week, Barcelona might have to wait until next year to sign the Portuguese international from Manchester City.
