Transfer Gossip: Man Utd set for spending spree after green light given to follow Casemiro with three signings; Forest bid for Prem man

Ajax star Antony

Manchester United could take their summer spend above £300million after a report revealed their three remaining targets, while Nottingham Forest are in the market for a Wolves player – all in Sunday’s transfer gossip.

MAN UTD TO SPEND WAY OUT OF TROUBLE

Manchester United could yet make three more major signings before the end of the summer transfer window as they plan to ‘spend their way out of trouble’.

That’s according to the Sunday Mirror, which claims that deals for Frenkie de Jong, Antony and Cody Gakpo are still on the table for Erik ten Hag’s side.

After consecutive defeats to start the Premier League season, Manchester United need a reaction of some sorts. It could yet come in the transfer window, in which they are close to adding Casemiro to their squad.

After the holding midfielder arrives from Real Madrid, though, the spending might not stop. Despite previous doubts about the size of Manchester United’s budget without Champions League involvement, the Mirror now says they are willing to ‘spend their way out of trouble’.

With that in mind, they are still in the hunt for De Jong, Antony and Gakpo. All three have been linked with the club throughout the summer.

Midfielder De Jong has been a prime target for his former Ajax boss Ten Hag. However, his situation at Barcelona has made things complicated.

Even with the arrival of Casemiro, though, Manchester United could go back in for De Jong.

He might not be the last Dutchman to arrive at Old Trafford. Indeed, it is added that PSV winger Gakpo is still being targeted by the Red Devils.

And another Eredivisie forward, Ajax’s Antony, is still a high-profile target for the final 10 days of the transfer window.

Big sums revealed for each player

If United manage to sign all three, they could end up spending more than £300million on transfers in total this summer. They already have a £71.5million agreement in place with Barcelona for De Jong, while a bid above £72million for Antony has been rejected by Ajax.

According to The Sunday Times, the Dutch outfit are expecting United to raise their bid to €100million (£84.9million).

Meanwhile, going back to the Mirror‘s report, Gakpo comes with a £35million valuation. Promisingly, he has a desire to play in the Premier League, too.

United’s spending will break the nine-figure barrier with the addition of Casemiro. But it seems they have plenty more money to burn.

TRANSFER GOSSIP – NOTTINGHAM FOREST BID FOR BOLY

Willy Boly on the ball for Wolves

Nottingham Forest are discussing a deal to sign Willy Boly from fellow Premier League side Wolves.

According to the Sunday Telegraph, Forest are looking at Boly as their next potential reinforcement in the aftermath of an injury to recent signing, Moussa Niakhate.

In fact, Forest have already made a £1million bid for Boly, it is claimed – by both the Telegraph and The Athletic. Wolves, though, have rejected the initial proposal.

While talks continue, Wolves will be looking into signing a replacement for themselves. Therefore, Forest may have to wait for a successful outcome, even if they up their bid.

Boly, 31, has less than a year left on his contract at Molineux. His departure could continue an evolution of the Wolves defence this summer.

For instance, they let captain Conor Coady leave for Everton. Meanwhile, former Burnley man Nathan Collins was one of their earlier signings.

Boly could yet make way, adding to the huge list of summer signings for Forest. But he will cost more than £1million.

TRANSFER GOSSIP – CRYSTAL PALACE EYE LEICESTER OUTCAST

Leicester flop Boubakary Soumare could get a second chance in the Premier League with Crystal Palace.

Soumare signed for Leicester last summer but has been linked with a premature exit. He only played in half of their Premier League matches last season.

There has been plenty of talk about a return to Ligue 1 for the midfielder. For example, Monaco could try to sign him in a swap deal with winger Sofiane Diop, as reported by The Sun on Sunday.

Alternatively, though, Soumare could move elsewhere in the Premier League. The newspaper claims Crystal Palace boss Patrick Vieira is an admirer of the Leicester man.

In turn, they could make a loan-to-buy offer for a player who cost Leicester £17million last year.

Palace are still seeking midfield reinforcements to make up for Conor Gallagher returning to Chelsea after his loan spell. They have come to a realisation that bringing the England international back – or teammate Ruben Loftus-Cheek – will not be easy.

Hence, they are now considering Lyon’s Houssem Aouar and Leicester’s Soumare.
