Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou has dismissed reports he is a potential target for Leicester to replace former Hoops boss Brendan Rodgers.
Rodgers, who won two Scottish Premiership titles with Celtic, is feeling the heat south of the border after a poor start to the season. The weekend’s 6-2 reverse at Spurs has left Leicester bottom of the Premier League with just one point from seven games.
Rodgers, 49, is well aware of the pressure he is under at the King Power Stadium.
“I don’t know, to be honest. Whatever their [the owners’] decision is, I will always respect it,” Rodgers told Sky Sports News.
“It [the international break] has probably come at a good time to reset everything, break the cycle from the summer as well. The owners will do what it is they feel they need to do.
“I’m not daft, I know football, and the last six games don’t make great reading. But I have every confidence the team can push on and climb the table if they play like they did in large parts and cut out mistakes.”
The struggles of Rodgers has led to Celtic boss Postecoglou being linked with the job.
According to The Scotsman, the Foxes could approach Australian Postecoglou should they decide to part ways with Rodgers, who left Celtic in 2019.
But Postecoglou, speaking to Sky Sports News in Sydney, has dismissed the talk.
Postecoglou, said: “It’s not really on my radar. I’ve said to my players and it’s the same for me – if they do what they do well, all this other stuff takes care of itself, whatever their or my ambitions may be.
Postecoglou: ‘Proud I’m getting noticed’
“My ambition has been the same wherever I’ve been – it’s to be as successful as I can be. Right now I’m at a massive football club, living the dream and I am enjoying every minute of it.
“Anyone who has followed my career knows that I’m pretty big on playing the game a certain way. I’ve tried to do that wherever I’ve been against the backdrop of knowing I have to be successful.
“I’ve always tried to play football in a manner that I think excites supporters. Wherever I’ve been, the question has been ‘will it work at the next level?’ What I’ve tried to prove is that it does and it will.
“I am at a really massive football club. We’re not playing in one of the high profile European leagues. But in terms of the club itself as an institution, we play in front of 60,000 people. We’re in the Champions League, it’s a massive club.
“By having success at Celtic, I’m proud that I’m getting noticed everywhere.”
