Following the disappointment of the loss against Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena on Tuesday night, Barcelona players are confident about turning things around when the two teams meet at Spotify Camp Nou next month, reports AS.
Manager Xavi Hernandez spoke about his anger and frustration during the post-match interview as his Barcelona team missed a great opportunity to defeat Bayern in their own backyard after thoroughly dominating the tie in the first half.
The feeling within the dressing room after the defeat is said to be similar to that of the manager as the players and the staff believe that they gave the Bavarians a run for their money before a five-minute spell in the second half undid all their good work.
And despite the defeat, there seems to be confidence surging through the team as some players are believed to have said something to the effect of “At Camp Nou it’s going to be another story,” as per the report.
Barcelona had the better of the chances in the first half but were guilty of not capitalising on them as Robert Lewandowski fluffed his lines on more than one occasion while Manuel Neuer was at hand to make a couple of good stops to deny his former teammate and Pedri.
An early second-half blitz saw Bayern Munich take a two-goal lead. Barça tried to fight back and crafted a few more opportunities but could not breach the goal as Lewandowski once again failed to hit the target while Pedri ended up striking the woodwork from close-range.
President Joan Laporta greeted the players after the game and told them that he was proud of the team’s display despite the outcome, the report adds.
There is no question that the performance was a major improvement from the last time that Barcelona faced Bayern Munich. However, the result was a letdown as the Catalans lost their first game of the new season.
It will be interesting to see how the team reacts to the setback, but if the report is to go by, Barça seem confident about getting the job done when Bayern visit Camp Nou next month.
