Barcelona’s white away kit for 2023/24 season to feature 1970s club crest – report

Even though we are just a month into the 2022/23 season, details about Barcelona’s kits for the 2023/24 campaign have already started to emerge.

Earlier this week it was revealed that Barcelona will be going retro with their design for the home kit for the next campaign. On top of that, it also emerged that the Catalans will be wearing white-coloured away kits for the 2023/24 season.

Barça have not worn a white jersey since the late 1970s in order to avoid a clash with their arch-rivals Real Madrid. However, Joan Laporta and the current board have sanctioned for a white away kit to be designed for the upcoming campaign.

Following that, fresh reports have now emerged which shed light on the crest design that will feature on the away kit for the next season.

As per kit experts Footy Headlines, Barcelona will be using an older version of the club’s crest on the away white kit for the 2023/24 campaign.

The report indicates that the club crest set to be used by the Catalan heavyweights for the away jersey for the next season will likely be one from the 1970s, with the 1974/75 crest said to be the likeliest option.

During the 1974/75 season, Barcelona’s crest featured much darker shades of the garnet and blue colours of the club, while the colour of the ball on the crest is also dark red. On top of that, the central band is white in colour, which would match the white away kit.

The current crest design came into place in 2002/03, when it was printed on the away kits, before being made the norm for all shirts starting from 2003/04. So, the switch to a retro badge on the away kit for the next season will certainly be an interesting change.

There is no clarity over whether Barcelona plan to use a retro badge on the home kit as well for 2023/24.
