Gavi, who turned 18 on August 5, is waiting to put pen to a new deal. As reported by Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo, it is going to be an important week for the young midfielder as Barcelona are planning to formalise his contract extension until 2026 before the month of October.
As of today, the Sevilla-born midfielder is only waiting for a date to sign his contract.
For now, talk within the Barcelona office is that since the Nations League is coming up, where the 18-year-old would be occupied against Switzerland and Portugal, the possibility is that they could get the stamp on the papers by the end of the current week itself.
Gavi has been one of the standout players for Xavi since he took the reigns last year. This season, the young midfielder is only one of the two outfield players alongside Ronald Araujo who have started each of Barcelona’s five league games.
He was rightly rested against Viktoria Plzen but anyway managed to play the final 15 minutes of the 5-1 win.
Now, Barcelona are well aware of the interest Gavi has generated across Europe, but the good news is that the player, himself, wants to commit his future to the Camp Nou team.
In that regard, it was understood that during the summer transfer window, as Barcelona tried to push for Robert Lewandowski, Bayern tried getting hands on Gavi. Apart from the Bavarians, Liverpool as well as Paris Saint-Germain were said to be the reported interested parties.
The week marks an important tenure for the 18-year-old, as apart from the possible contract extension, he is also set to face one of his suitors, Bayern Munich, in the Champions League.
It must be noted that this is not the first time he will take the field against the Bavarians. Last season, he played a little more than 30 minutes in a 0-3 home defeat to the German champions, followed by a starting role in a 0-3 away loss to Julian Nagelsmann’s men.
