Speaking in an exclusive interview with BILD, Bayern Munich sensation Jamal Musiala has claimed that Barcelona were his favourite team growing up.
Bayern Munich will be facing Barça in a short time after the two teams have once again been drawn in the same group in the Champions League.
With the clash not far away, Musiala, who is one of the most exciting young talents in European football currently has made an interesting revelation that he was a fan of Barcelona and Lionel Messi growing up.
“FC Barcelona were my go-to team, my favourite team. I had a Messi shirt. The midfield with Xavi, Iniesta, and Busquets – that fascinated me. I could always watch their games again and again,” Musiala said.
The German international also stated that he was excited to play at a packed Camp Nou as the stadium was not fully occupied when Bayern visited Barcelona last season.
“The last time the stadium wasn’t full. This time it’s going to be different. It will be fantastic,” the teenage sensation said.
Musiala has been likened to Messi by German legend Lothar Matthaus due to the youngster’s fleet-footed nature and skilful dribbling. Reacting to the comparisons, the Bayern Munich prodigy said:
“I think my dribbling in tight spaces led Lothar Matthäus to this comparison. Messi’s game is at a fantastic level, so it’s an incredible honour for me when an expert like Lothar Matthäus sees a small facet of my game in him.”
Both Barcelona and Bayern will start their European campaign later tonight with clashes against Viktoria Plzen and Inter Milan, respectively. The two teams will lock horns next week at the Allianz Arena before playing the reverse fixture at Camp Nou in October.
