Euro Paper Talk: Man Utd hopeful as rivals for star set to ‘mark an era’ fear being forced to retreat; Tottenham eye Serie A talent

Vanderson, March 2022

Manchester United receive a hopeful update over a rising defender target, while Tottenham eye up a growing Serie A talent – both in all the latest Euro Paper Talk.

MAN UTD GET VANDERSON BOOST

Manchester United would have a solid chance of tempting Vanderson to Old Trafford if a bidding war with Barcelona started, according to a report.

The Red Devils made several signings all across the pitch this summer in Erik ten Hag’s first transfer window as manager. However, one area they did not strengthen was at right-back.

United had links with potential additions such as Jonathan Clauss, Sergino Dest and Benjamin Pavard. In the end, though, Ten Hag stuck with Diogo Dalot and Aaron Wan-Bissaka as his options.

The idea of signing a new right-back is regardless still a hot topic at Man Utd. And more recently, Monaco star Vanderson has emerged on United’s radar.

Ten Hag’s side have registered interest in the 21-year-old Brazilian alongside Barcelona, who were quoted €60million (£52million) by the French club for the star this summer.

According to the latest from Sport, though, Barcelona will not engage in a bidding war for Vanderson if it comes to it.

The La Liga side do not have the finances to overpower the English clubs who are interested. Indeed, Sport adds that Vanderson has a number of offers from the Premier League.

Barcelona would therefore have to hope Vanderson gives them his word. His fellow Brazilian Raphinha did the same this summer amid Chelsea and Arsenal’s interest in the former Leeds United man.

Vanderson only moved to Monaco from Gremio in January. After impressing in his first half-season in France, though, he earned a bumper new contract this summer – and his lofty current valuation to boot.

Sport adds that Vanderson could yet ‘mark an era’ for Brazil at left-back, if the 21-year-old continues his current rise.

As well as playing at right-back, the player has been deployed further forward by Monaco this season.
