Everton may be plotting big Anthony Gordon decision after fending off Chelsea transfer interest

Anthony Gordon, Everton, September 2022

Everton may soon offer Anthony Gordon a new contract, since they have kept him at the club despite interest from Chelsea, as per one journalist.

The situation regarding Gordon was one of the main talking points of the summer transfer window. Indeed, there were a few clubs reportedly keen on snatching him from Everton.

Tottenham were linked with him early on. Following that, interest from Chelsea cropped up, and remained until the latter stages of the window.

The Blues were clearly very keen to take Gordon to Stamford Bridge. Indeed, they had a couple of offers rejected, including one which they reportedly felt held a value of £85million.

That offer was apparently of £25million, as well as Armando Broja and Conor Gallagher.

However, Everton held firm, evidently keen on keeping ahold of their 21-year-old star, despite the intriguing offer. They could show their willingness to keep him around for even longer soon, too.

That’s according to journalist Peter O’Rourke, who believes a contract offer could be on its way.

“It’ll be interesting to see what happens now with Anthony Gordon. It looks like all the speculation hasn’t affected his performances on the field either, which is key for him and for Everton,” he told GIVEMESPORT.

“I’m sure that they’ll sit down and have discussions to see where they go now and maybe offer him a long-term contract to try and ward off any potential interest in the next couple of transfer windows.”

Indeed, offering Gordon a new contract would be a signal of his value to Everton.

Anthony Gordon crucial for Everton

Gordon is clearly a crucial asset at Goodison Park. The winger has bagged two goals in the last three games, both of which gained the Toffees a point.

With the club currently looking like they could be involved a scrap for relegation, having a player around who can find the net in tough games will be key. While Gordon has only scored six goals in his senior career, the fact two came in two games show that tally is likely to rise exponentially.

Furthermore, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin set to return to the fold, following an injury, he and Gordon could share the load between them.

Having two quality players alongside one another is sure to help Everton climb the table. Gordon is certainly the type of player they should be trying to keep around for the long run, in any case, as he has begun to show more often this campaign.
