Ex-Barcelona forward tips club to succeed with Xavi, Lewandowski: “Amazing time is coming”

Speaking in an interview with Mundo Deportivo, former Barcelona forward Gerard Deulofeu has claimed that Barcelona are set to enjoy a great time with Xavi Hernandez at the helm and Robert Lewandowski leading the line.

Xavi took over the reins as manager in November last year and has brought about a lot of improvement in the team during this period. He has also been backed to the hilt in the market by the club, as the Blaugrana made several top signings this summer.

The cherry on top, though, has been the acquisition of Robert Lewandowski, who is already tearing it up at his new club.

The 34-year-old has netted eight goals in just five games for Barcelona and scored a historic hat-trick against Viktoria Plzen on his Champions League debut for the club on Wednesday night.

Deulofeu, who had two spells at Barcelona and is currently playing for Udinese, insisted that he is very happy to see Xavi at the helm of affairs at Spotify Camp Nou. The attacker claimed that the club can look forward to an ‘amazing time’ with the legend as the manager.

“I am very happy for him. I’m glad for the people who are at Barça that people like Xavi or Joan Laporta have returned to the club. I think an amazing time is coming,” he said.

“I remember that last year I said that you had to be patient with the young players who were exploding. But this season you can already begin to feel that a beautiful year is coming for the Catalans. Barça is in good hands. Xavi is magnificent, the ideal coach.”

On the signing of Lewandowski, Deulofeu added: “He is an incredible player, crazy. The other day I had to post a tweet saying that Barça was going to have a good time with this ‘9’.

“He is scandalous how he moves both inside and outside the area, how he understands the spaces, improves his teammates and the goal he has. I think he is in the ‘Top 3’ of the best strikers in the world with Benzema and Mbappe.”

Barcelona have not lost a single game so far in the new season, winning four of their five fixtures in all competitions. They are second in the La Liga table and sit atop the standings in Group C of the UEFA Champions League.

Up next for the Blaugrana is a La Liga clash against Cadiz, following which they will lock horns with old foes Bayern Munich in Europe.
