Official: Barcelona sign Kiera Walsh from Manchester City for a record-breaking fee

The biggest transfer saga in women’s football this summer comes to an end as Barcelona Femeni announce the signing of Manchester City midfielder Keira Walsh. She signed on a three-year contract until 2025.

Walsh has been an integral part of City’s team, helping them to back-to-back podium finishes in the last two seasons, and the trophy in 2019/20. She has also been one of the best central midfielders in the world since her transfer to Manchester City in 2014.

Not to forget, Walsh was a start for England during their run to the European Championship earlier this year. She etched two assists in the competition, including one for Ella Toone in the finals to put the Lionesses ahead in the 62nd minute.

The fee for the move has not been disclosed by Barcelona, but it said to be in the region of €400K, breaking the previous world record of £300,000 that Chelsea shelled out to VfL Wolfsburg to sign Pernille Harder in 2020.

She is the second English international that arrives to Barcelona this summer, following Lucy Bronze’s move from Man City as well.

With captain Alexia Putellas out with an ACL injury for a few months, Walsh is expected to take her place in midfield and hopefully replicate the Spanish legend’s contribution to Barcelona.
