Official: Lewandowski, Messi among five players to receive highest rating on FIFA 23

FIFA have officially announced the top 23 players on FIFA 23 ahead of the game’s release this month. Compared to previous editions where Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo often touched 93 or 94, the highest rating this time is capped at 91.

That honour has gone to five players, including (now) Barcelona’s very own Robert Lewandowski and Messi. The two, alongside Kylian Mbappe, Karim Benzema, and Kevin de Bruyne, have received the top 91 card.

Lewandowski was by far the highest scorer last season, with 48 goals across the three club competitions. Benzema, however, probably takes home the mantle for the best player, winning the league and UCL, while scoring 44 goals.

It’s completely understandable why they would be given the highest rank possible in the game. Messi, meanwhile, did not have the best of seasons, but FIFA ratings are also ranked on history and ability, so a 91 is the bare minimum he deserves.

Mbappe is the official poster boy for the game, and had a pretty solid season himself with 39 goals. While his displays probably don’t touch the rest of the three, we can definitely see why he shares the same podium.

De Bruyne is an interesting case, though. He was arguably Manchester City’s best player as they cruised to another Premier League trophy, but on the grand scale of things, it is a bit surprising he has been rated 91.

Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk, Cristiano Ronaldo, Thibaut Courtois, and Manuel Neuer sit in the tier just below these five, with 90 each.

The third tier, at 89, features Neymar, Son Heung-Min, Sadio Mane, Joshua Kimmich, Casemiro, Alisson, Harry Kane, Ederson, N’Golo Kante, and Jan Oblak.
