Ex-Fifa official tips FA investigation into Liverpool and Man City after BBC reveal

The FA should launch an investigation into the crowd behaviour at Anfield as Liverpool beat Man City 1-0 on Sunday (16 October), according to Keith Hackett.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Fifa and Premier League referee claimed alleged Hillsborough chants from the away end and coin-throwing from the home fans are “unacceptable”.

Liverpool released a statement after the game condemning “vile” chants and graffiti from Man City fans.

The BBC’s Mike Minay reported on Monday (17 October) that Man City are preparing a complaint to the FA.

It is alleged that coins were thrown at Pep Guardiola and their bus was vandalised by Liverpool fans on the way to Anfield.

“There is the noise from the crowd, these chants, and there are also coins being thrown at Pep Guardiola,” Hackett told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“These are actions that are unacceptable. I’m pleased that Liverpool came out with a fairly quick statement to express their concerns.

“I think the football authorities should look at it.

“It’s difficult to control fans and chants but there is enough security and cameras around the place to say ‘Look, we need to do something’.

“The coin-throwing situation is just totally unacceptable.

“I think they have significant cameras around the ground to be able to catch those people that are situated near the technical area who are throwing coins.”

The win for Liverpool leaves them 11 points behind Man City who are second in the Premier League table.

Arsenal top the table, four points above City and 14 above the Reds.
