Hutton loves what he's 'heard' about Rice's future after West Ham source's reveal

Alan Hutton has claimed “it is nice to hear” Declan Rice has not signed a new contract at West Ham despite a lucrative offer.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Tottenham and Aston Villa defender said Rice’s actions show he is just focused on football.

On Saturday (15 October), sources told this site that the 23-year-old has no intention of signing a new contract at the London Stadium, regardless of the offer.

The midfielder is focused on a transfer to a Champions League giant in the summer.

The Hammers have offered the England international multiple new deals including an offer worth £200,000 per week that would keep him at the club for the next eight years.

Rice will have one year left on his deal by the end of the 2022-23 season but the Irons have the option of a further year.

Hutton has hailed Rice’s decision to hold out for a club he wants, rather than accepting a big offer.

I think it shows you that it is not all about money for him,” he told Football Insider.

I think that is what I take from it. Whereas a lot of footballers would sign for security, eight years on a lot of money. His aspirations are to go and challenge and go and win things and win trophies.

So I think that is quite refreshing to hear, that it is not just about money. It is a purely football decision and what he sees as best for his future. So it is nice to hear that it is not all about money for once.
