Paul Robinson is adamant Erling Haaland’s first goal for Man City against Brighton was legitimate.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Spurs and England number one said the 22-year-old was simply “bigger and stronger” than Seagulls defender Adam Webster.

As shown on Sky Sports, Haaland opened the scoring for Pep Guardiola’s side against the Seagulls on Saturday (22 October).

The Norwegian goal machine sent Webster to the ground moments before the goal.

Referee Craig Pawson did not deem Haaland to have made a foul and VAR official Lee Mason concurred with his colleague.

When asked by Football Insider if Webster should have been awarded a free-kick for the challenge, Robinson issued a two-word verdict: “No way.

“It was shoulder to shoulder. Webster went down and he did not even appeal. That is a telltale sign. That shows you what an honest challenge it was.

“Haaland was just bigger and stronger than him. They went shoulder to shoulder and Webster lost out. Webster would love to have done the same to Haaland I’m sure. He just met his match.

“Webster’s arms do not go up in the air. It was just a genuine coming together between two players. Once again, Haaland proved to be stronger.”

Haaland has taken the Premier League by storm this season and is currently the divisions top goalscorer.

He has scored 22 goals in 16 appearances across all competitions.
