Barcelona are set for a busy period ahead as the club football goes into an early hiatus in light of the upcoming FIFA World Cup.
With the club looking to further trim their squad in the January transfer window, it will not be surprising to see more players leaving Camp Nou in the coming months.
According to Luis Rojo, one of them could be Memphis Depay. The Barcelona forward has fallen out of favour at Camp Nou and is currently trailing behind the likes of Ferran Torres, Ansu Fati, Ousmane Dembele and Raphinha in the pecking order.
Depay’s struggles have not deterred his potential suitors, though, with the player still being rated highly among some of the top European clubs.
While Manchester United have recently entertained the desire to sign the forward in the upcoming January transfer window, Luis Rojo claims Sevilla are also exploring the idea of signing the Barcelona forward, who offers abundant experience at the highest level of football.
Widely regarded as one of the best teams in Spain, Sevilla have endured a forgettable start to the season. They were knocked out of the UEFA Champions League group stages and are currently dawdling in the relegation places in La Liga.
The addition of Depay, therefore, has emerged as one of the club’s priorities for the January transfer window. However, the report suggests the Barça forward is not interested in moving to Sevilla in mid-season.
With the player’s current contract at Camp Nou expiring at the end of the season, he is holding out for a move to a top European club. The situation at Sevilla, who are out of the UCL and are struggling in the relegation places, therefore, is not attracting the former Lyon starlet.
