Earlier this week, Ferran Torres celebrated the first anniversary of his transfer to Barcelona. The former Valencia attacker, who spent one and a half seasons with Manchester City, returned to La Liga on a five-year contract for a fee worth €65 million on December 28, 2022.
Torres went on score seven goals across all competitions in the second half of the campaign, helping Barça finish second in the Spanish top flight.
The 22-year-old was used across several attacking positions and thanks to his experience of playing as a centre-forward at Man City, he proved to be quite an asset for Barcelona.
However, once Robert Lewandowski was acquired this past summer, Torres’ services have mostly been used out wide. But despite that, the two footballers have connected really well in such a short time.
As reported by SPORT, the Poland international has connected in a special way with the 22-year-old Torres despite having a difference of 12 years in their age.
SPORT justifies the aforementioned by relaying that Torres worked hard in Manchester to learn English and the lesson is now reaping rewards in a way that has allowed him to communicate fluently with his attacking partner, Lewandowski.
Furthermore, it is even quoted that their off-the-field relationship is budding really well and this is culminating in a great friendship.
As far as Torres is concerned, his willingness to learn has allowed him to pay close attention to Lewandowski’s approach as a centre-forward. It was the key as to why he slotted really well at Manchester City as he absorbed everything possible from a certain Sergio Aguero.
And, Torres is hoping to repeat the trick by learning from Lewandowski at Barcelona.
“I’m a sponge next to him. I watch him in everything, in all his movements. I’m lucky to be a striker, too, and I study his movements. It’s very nice to play with a footballer like him, of his stature,” he said in a recent interview.
At the same time, the 22-year-old also gave due credit to Xavi for helping him during his first year at the club.
“Xavi has helped me improve on the left wing, and as a striker. It has helped me to understand how to receive on my back and play. It gives me total confidence and that is key for a player, to continue working and with motivation,” he said in the same interview.
Both Lewandowski and Torres are delighted to share the secrets of their respective positions and this is helping them in developing their friendship further.
