Barcelona yet to receive offers for forward, club suspect player is the reason behind it

According to MARCA, Barcelona are yet to receive any formal offers for Memphis Depay ahead of the January transfer window despite attracting interest from several clubs.

The Netherlands international has hardly been used by manager Xavi Hernandez this season and with his contract expiring at the end of the season, speculations over his future have been doing the rounds for a while now.

There have been reports of interest from the likes of Manchester United, AS Roma, and Newcastle United, among several other clubs. However, Barcelona have not received any formal offer for the 28-year-old so far.

And as per the report, the Blaugrana believe that Depay himself is the reason behind it. It is claimed that when interested clubs make contact with the entourage of the striker, he is telling them that he will not leave Barcelona in January and only move as a free agent in the summer.

The report suggests that manager Xavi is happy with Depay despite his lack of game-time. However, he would not be very bothered by losing the Dutchman in January either because of the depth in the attacking unit.

The Barcelona board, on the other hand, would prefer for the former Manchester United striker to move on as they continue to find ways to reduce their wage bill.

However, Depay has no desire to leave the Blaugrana at this point as he would prefer to leave for free at the end of the season.

That is because leaving as a free agent would guarantee him a lucrative contract and a signing-on bonus as well. At the same time, the Netherlands international also wants to join a top Champions League side.

Depay arrived at Barça as a free agent in 2021 after his contract with Olympique Lyon had expired. And the forward desires to leave Spotify Camp Nou in the same way.
