Barcelona interested in signing soon-to-be-free French forward in the summer

With Barcelona set to explore the free-transfer market for reinforcements in the summer transfer window, several players have presented themselves as targets for the La Liga leaders.

There have been strong links to the likes of Inigo Martinez, N’Golo Kante and Youssoufa Moukoko, while players such as Jorginho, Youri Tielemans, and more recently, Evan Ndicka have also been linked.

Now, according to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona have shown an interest in another soon-to-be-free Bundesliga star in the form of Borussia Monchengladbach’s Marcus Thuram.

The 25-year-old forward is in the final six months of his contract at the German outfit and has shown no indication of wanting to renew. It has put him on the radars of top clubs from across Europe, given his exploits for Gladbach in recent seasons.

Indeed, Thuram’s ability to play across the frontline and act as a consistent source of goals has made him a hot commodity in the market. The French international has netted 13 goals and set up four more in 17 matches across all competitions this season.

Chelsea were said to be making a push for Thuram, but they are now close to signing Joao Felix from Atletico Madrid on loan. It could leave the door open for Barcelona to tie down a pre-contract agreement with the forward over a free transfer in the summer.

Although the possibility of the Premier League giants making a move for Thuram this month is not completely ruled out at this moment.

Barça will need a new attacking reinforcement in the summer as a backup for Robert Lewandowski. Memphis Depay is all but certain to leave the club either this month or at the end of the season, while Ferran Torres and Ansu Fati are not exactly inspiring confidence at the moment.

Hence, bringing in a player like Thuram, who has experience at the highest level, with his best years still ahead of him, on a Bosman deal, can prove to be a fruitful operation for the Blaugrana.

The report states that Barça have very good reports on the forward, who spent a couple of years at La Masia, when his father, Lilian Thuram, was a first-team player.

However, there will be competition for the 25-year-old’s services and Barcelona must act swiftly if they are indeed serious about wanting to sign the nine-time capped French international.
