With Newcastle United in the market for reinforcements in the middle of the park, Barcelona midfielder Franck Kessie has emerged as a possible option for the Premier League club.
This claim comes from the Daily Mail, who state that Newcastle United scouts have recommended the name of Kessie as an option for the Magpies due to his potential availability this month.
Kessie joined Barcelona only in the last summer window but has struggled to break into the team, finding minutes hard to come by under Xavi Hernandez.
It has sparked a lot of rumours about his future, with a return to Serie A having been touted. Inter Milan, in particular, have shown strong interest in signing the Ivorian, although the player is not interested in leaving Camp Nou at the moment.
Now, Newcastle United have also emerged as a possible suitor for the 26-year-old Kessie. The Magpies have become one of the most exciting destinations for footballers over the past year following the change in ownership at the club.
They are making huge strides on the pitch under the tutelage of Eddie Howe and are intent on further strengthening their roster to achieve greater heights in the years to come.
The midfield department has been identified as an area that needs reinforcements, leading to links with several players.
While Kessie’s name has been recommended by scouts, the report suggests that the Ivory Coast international is not high on the wishlist of Newcastle at the moment.
Instead, they seem to be diverting their attention towards signing Wolves midfielder Ruben Neves, who interestingly, is a target for Barcelona.
Kessie’s agent has previously made it abundantly clear that the midfielder is not considering an exit from Barça this month. So, it seems unlikely that the ex-AC Milan ace will leave right now. But if his situation does not improve, a summer exit could be on the cards.
