There is no secret that FC Barcelona are in the market for reinforcements in the right-back department. The club are well aware of the fact that Sergi Roberto’s days at Camp Nou could be numbered regardless of his form.
Hector Bellerin has not been able to do much since returning to Catalonia either, often struggling to earn a prominent place in Xavi’s setup. This has led to a search for a new option in the market, preferably someone young with a lot to offer.
While Barcelona have been linked with moves for Benjamin Pavard, Thomas Meunier and Diogo Dalot, among others, they are also keeping tabs on relatively under-the-radar youngsters such as Arnau Martinez, reports Samuel Marsden.
The ESPN journalist suggests the Girona youngster remains on the radar of Barcelona. The Blaugrana, in fact, was home to Martinez during the early stages of his career before the player eventually joined Hospitalet youth academy in 2016.
Martinez has come a long way since and is now considered one of the most talented young right-backs in Spain. He has racked up 77 competitive appearances for Girona, establishing himself as a prominent member of the first team.
The 19-year-old’s performances have not gone unnoticed, with Barcelona targeting him as a potential long-term investment for the club. The Catalans are well aware of the youngster’s potential and may identify him as the ideal man to become the club’s first-choice right-back in the years to come.
However, it will not come as a surprise to see Barça facing stiff competition in the race to sign Arnau Martinez, who is likely to attract widespread attention across Spain, if not Europe, for his consistent performances in Girona.
To that end, the second half of the campaign could be crucial for Martine, in his bid to earn a move to a top club at the end of the season.
