Ousmane Dembele played one of the best matches of his career when he mesmerised the onlookers with his performance against Real Sociedad this week.
Although Barcelona could only win 1-0, Dembele put in a stellar show, running rings around the opposition’s defence and creating chance after chance. He received a standing ovation from the Barcelona fans when he was subbed off during the final phase of the game.
Shortly after the game, there have been talks about his future. According to SPORT, it appears the player has no intention to leave Barcelona anytime soon.
Dembele did sign a contract extension at Camp Nou during the summer transfer window. But the deal expires at the end of the 2023/24 campaign. It also has a release clause worth just €50 million, which can be activated in the month of June and July by other clubs.
Although the value of the release clause will be increased to €100 million after July, there were fears that Dembele may still leave the club one way or another.
But as per SPORT, the Frenchman is not thinking about leaving. He is quite satisfied with the progress he has made at Camp Nou and acknowledges the fact that he is going through the best phase of his career since he joined the club back in 2017.
As a matter of fact, Dembele is thinking about a potential contract extension that will further safeguard his future at Camp Nou. It may also eliminate the release clause that was put in his current deal.
Barcelona, for their part, have been considering the possibility of offering Dembele a second renewal during the course of the campaign. But it could be tricky proposition given the club’s ongoing altercations with the Financial Fair Play regulations.
A lot can be unveiled in the coming months as Barça look to balance the books by selling unwanted players and forming new partnership deals with various sponsors.
