Man Utd fail with offer to triple wages of livewire winger as Real Madrid begin to eye transfer

Nelson Semedo and Alejandro Garnacho

Manchester United are keen to tie Alejandro Garnacho down to a new contract and their approach to doing so has been revealed by a report that puts Real Madrid in contention to lure him away.

Garnacho is quickly establishing himself as someone who can have a big impact for Man Utd. Most recently, he assisted Marcus Rashford’s winning goal in the Manchester derby. In total, he has two goals and five assists from 15 games this season.

Still only 18 years old, Garnacho is going to be attracting interest from the biggest clubs in the world, given that he is already making an impression for one of them.

His contract with Man Utd is only due to last until 2024, although the club have the option to extend it by a further year.

However, they want to reward Garnacho’s progress by negotiating a better deal for him. But their attempts up to this point have not paid off.

According to the Independent, Garnacho currently takes home a weekly salary of £7,000. So far, Man Utd have offered him a package worth £20,000 per week, which would be almost triple his earnings.

His representatives, though, have responded to the club that their offer is still not enough. They believe he deserves more in acknowledgement of his growing role within the first team.

Although, they might not be in control of Garnacho’s career for much longer, since several leading agencies are also monitoring his situation. They could plant the seeds of a future transfer to win him over.

But for now, talks continue with his current entourage and Man Utd. The Red Devils still feel they have been making progress when it comes to tying Garnacho down for the long term.

They will need to, too, given that the same report confirms that the teenager has become a target for Real Madrid.

Real Madrid and Juventus join list of Garnacho suitors

The Spanish giants want to equip themselves with some of the world’s most promising young talents to ensure long-term domination. Therefore, Garnacho – who was born in Madrid and spent time in the academy of their rivals Atletico, who coincidentally wouldn’t mind taking him back either – is on their radar.

Real Madrid are yet to make a concrete offer for Garnacho. But the report claims Man Utd are aware of their interest in luring him back to his country of birth.

In addition to Real, more admirers of Garnacho can be found at Juventus. A move to Italy would represent another new challenge for the wide man.

But having fought for his place in the Man Utd team and earned it, it seems to make the most sense for him to stay put and keep building his reputation right now.

He will feel deserving of an upgrade on his current terms, but Man Utd want to keep him grounded. In turn, he could prosper even more at Old Trafford.

The longer they have to wait for him to commit, though, the more they might start to panic. Therefore, they will be hoping to reach a breakthrough soon.
