Tottenham transfer news: Conte to hijack Euro powerhouse’s move for magnificent star told to leave in cut-price fee

Tottenham are reportedly ready to launch a late window bid to scupper PSG’s prospects of snaring a quality Inter Milan star cleared to leave for a bargain fee this month.

Things are looking up again at Tottenham after a difficult couple of weeks. Recent defeats to Arsenal and Manchester City had seen the mood fall at Tottenham and amid heightening claims Conte may be facing the sack.

Those rumours hit fever pitch with a trusted Italian reporter claiming Conte would depart in the summer and Daniel Levy was considering his successor.

However, with Gary Neville pointing out that Spurs are where they need to be, he can envisage a scenario where Conte stays for the long-term.

And it seems Levy is ready to put his money where his mouth is. They have already brought in Arnaut Danjuma to boost their attack, while a deal for Sporting right-back Pedro Porro also appears close. To that end, the Portuguese side have seemingly settled on a former Arsenal man to come in his replacement.

However, the biggest and best signing of the window could be yet to come.

And according to Italian journalist Rudy Galetti, Spurs are vying to bring in Inter defender Milan Skriniar this month.

The Slovakian defender is regarded as one of the best defenders in world football. But after five and a half years with Inter, his time at the San Siro looks to be coming to a close.

His deal there is due to expire this summer and talks over an extension appear to have ground to a halt.

Skriniar was also red-carded on his last outing for the club – a surprise 1-0 home loss to Empoli. And it seems the defeat will be his last performance for the Nerazzurri.

Spurs to hijack Milan Skriniar transfer

As a result, the 27-year-old is being strongly linked with a move to PSG. The Ligue 1 powerhouses have long been on the defender’s trail, and are keen to lure him to Paris this year.

Indeed, they are reportedly looking to land him this month with Inter deciding to cash in on the player. To that end, reports this week claim Inter will seek just £17.7m (€20m) to let him leave before the January window shuts.

And with his future very much seemingly to be away from Inter, Foot Mercato has also revealed that ‘an English side’ are looking to snatch his signing.

Galetti, meanwhile, is convinced that side is Tottenham and he reckons they are ready to intervene and try and lure him to the Premier League instead.

The player is, of course, well known to Conte, having coached him during his time in charge at Inter.

And it would come as no shock to see Tottenham looking to bring him to north London, especially given the bargain price.

Conte is keen to strengthen his central defensive options in 2023. Clement Lenglet is on loan at the club with a decision to be made on his future in the summer.

However, the prospect to bring Skriniar in now will massively tempt the Tottenham boss. And with just days left in the January window, Tottenham will not have long to wait to see if their planned transfer intervention is successful.
