Barcelona receive offers for shorts sponsorship, could boost income by €5 million

A recent report from Mundo Deportivo has offered an update on Barcelona’s sponsorship situation. As the club continue to deal with economic hardships, the board is working full-time to generate new forms of revenue.

Barça are already in talks with Philips over the sleeve sponsorship that could generate up to €2-3 million during the remainder of the campaign and a figure of around €8-9 million per season from this summer onwards.

But as per the report, the Barcelona board is seriously considering adding a new sponsor to the shorts. It is an avenue that has never been explored by Barcelona in the club’s history but one that is being considered by the current managerial board.

This is because the club are in desperate need of fresh economic injection, in their bid to meet Financial Fair Play regulations.

The report indicates Barcelona, in addition to receiving various offers for the sleeve, have also received offers for the shorts sponsor. It is an area of branding that is currently being used by few Spanish teams already, including Mallorca and Espanyol.

Barcelona are now looking to exploit this area as well, as some of the companies, who have tabled offers for the sleeve position, have also expressed the desire to become the shorts sponsor.

As things stand right now, Barcelona have the club logo and Nike on the front side of their shorts. So if the club decide to bring in a new sponsor, it will be located on the rear side of the shorts.

The report suggests the shorts sponsorship could bring Barcelona an additional revenue of €5 million, which could go a long way in helping the club balance the books and meet the FFP requirements ahead of the upcoming summer transfer window.
