Barcelona defender finished Real Madrid clash with muscle discomfort; tests today

Barcelona fans are in euphoria currently as their team beat arch-rivals Real Madrid 2-1 on Sunday night at Camp Nou, to take a step closer to lifting the La Liga title.

The comeback win against the current champions meant that Xavi Hernandez’s men are now 12 points clear at the top of the table with just 12 matches left. It was a huge performance from the team on Sunday night, with everyone playing their part.

The players will now play off on national team duties for the next couple of weeks as we enter the first international break of 2023.

However, the win against Real Madrid came with a matter of concern for Barcelona as key defender Ronald Araujo finished the game with muscle discomfort in both his adductors.

Indeed, according to Mundo Deportivo, the Uruguayan international had been dealing with some issues during the game and even indicated it to the bench but opted to soldier on, as he put in another top display dealing with the threat of Vinicius Jr.

After the match, Araujo was seen icing the area where he felt discomfort. And the report adds that the 24-year-old will undergo tests today, starting with MRI scans to determine the extent of the issue.

It casts doubts on whether Araujo will travel with the Uruguayan national team for their friendlies over the next two weeks. The South American nation are set to face Japan in Tokyo before taking on South Korea in Seoul in two friendly encounters.

Should the tests today indicate injury or a risk of injury, Barcelona will discuss with the Uruguay FA to find the best possible solution for Araujo and his recovery.

The 24-year-old had picked up an injury while playing a friendly for Uruguay last year, which eventually led him to miss over two months of action, including the FIFA World Cup 2022.
