TEN HAG TO SELL MARTIAL AND REPLACE HIM WITH FREE AGENT

Manchester United are ready to sell Anthony Martial this summer – but will first extend him to a new deal to protect his value.

The Frenchman joined United in a staggered payments deal from Monaco back in September 2015, ultimately costing £54m.

In that time, he has made 283 appearances for the club, scoring 83 goals.

However, the last two seasons have been his least newsworthy for United, making a combined 25 appearances.

And with his deal expiring this summer, United are circulating his name to potential suitors.

But rather than release him on a free, United instead to first take up the one-year option on his contract to protect his value.

As a result, he could be allowed to move on for a modest fee of around £25m this summer.

In his place, United are reportedly looking to sign Moussa Dembele from Lyon.

The France striker is also a free agent this summer and journalist Florian Plettenberg confirms he will move on without a fee this summer.

He reportedly has offers on the table from clubs in Germany and the Premier League, all of whom can pay him more than his current £50,000 a week deal.

Indeed, Aston Villa and Borussia Monchengladbach are reportedly among his suitors.

However, reports now claim Ten Hag wants him at Manchester United as a replacement for Martial.

Not only does Ten Hag reportedly see the player as an upgrade, he will likely sign on wages far less than what Martial earns.

Dembele has been a key player for Lyon since his arrival from Celtic in 2018, scoring 70 goals in 169 appearances.
