Harry Maguire in mesmerising Man Utd exit link as £50m transfer touted to solve Euro giant’s Achilles heel

Harry Maguire, Man Utd August 2022

Harry Maguire is reportedly in line for a potential transfer to Paris Saint-Germain from Manchester United in the summer, according to a report that claims he could have already made the move in January.

Maguire is facing an uncertain future with Man Utd after losing his place as a regular starter, despite being the club’s captain. Instead of him, their main centre-back pairing this season has consisted of Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez.

Therefore, the world’s most expensive defender has been facing up to his fate. It is likely he will have to leave Man Utd in the summer if he wants to enjoy more regular gametime.

His situation has led to links with a few clubs. Recently, Ben Jacobs exclusively told TEAMtalk that Aston Villa, Wolves and Roma may be among his admirers.

But now, another surprising suggestion has emerged for the 30-year-old. According to a report from The Sun, Maguire is being targeted by Ligue 1 champions, Paris Saint-Germain.

In fact, the report even claims PSG put an offer on the table for Maguire in January, but ran out of time to complete a deal.

Now, after their elimination from the Champions League – a competition they have been targeting glory in for years, without success – PSG feel like they have been sent back to the drawing board.

Hence, they are already devising plans for how they could improve their squad next season. And there is a recognition that their defence is an area holding them back at present.

Hoping to invest in the summer transfer window to address that issue, they are once again giving serious thought to Maguire, it is claimed.

A transfer for the former Leicester City man could cost £50million, per the report. Then, PSG should be able to keep Maguire on a salary of £200,000 per week thanks to their wealthy Qatari owners.

For a player who is already considering his future, it could be quite a tempting offer. Maguire has never played for a foreign club before, but PSG would be a high-calibre way for him to change that.

Harry Maguire could fill PSG void

Their current centre-backs include Marquinhos, Sergio Ramos and Presnel Kimpembe. However, Ramos will be out of contract at the end of the season, while the others are into the final 18 months of their own deals.

After offloading some of their other options in the summer – like selling Thilo Kehrer to West Ham – there is a void for PSG to fill. They have a youngster coming through in the shape of El Chadaille Bitshiabu, but could do with some more seniority there.

In that regard, perhaps a move for Maguire might have some appeal. Although his form for Man Utd has deteriorated, he still has a good reputation when he represents the England national team.

Teams in mainland Europe should be well aware of how he can perform internationally. Thus, maybe moving abroad could be a good choice.

It remains to be seen how concrete the chances of Maguire moving to Paris actually are. There will be a lot to keep an eye on when it comes to his future.
