Pablo Torre receives praise from Barcelona Atletic manager: “Gives a leap in quality”

Speaking after Barcelona Atletic’s 2-1 win over Sabadell on Saturday, manager Rafael Marquez heaped praise on first-team youngster Pablo Torre, who played for the reserves in the contest.

As has been the case during international breaks this season, Torre went down to train and play for Barcelona’s subsidiary team with first-team football on a pause.

Considering that the 19-year-old has not been getting enough game-time with the first-team setup under Xavi Hernandez, playing for the reserves when the chance presents itself stands to benefit Torre.

And Barça Atletic manager Rafa Marquez has been impressed with what he saw from Torre during the game against Sabadell, as he said (h/t Mundo Deportivo):

“Pablo Torre gives us a lot of solutions, his contribution gives a leap in quality to the team and in the second half, it was noticeable when the team couldn’t find him. It’s good for him to play with us during the first team breaks.”

Torre signed for Barcelona last summer, arriving from Racing Santander, after snubbing interest from Real Madrid. But, he has not been getting enough minutes with the first team.

The Spanish prospect has played in just seven games across all competitions, scoring and assisting one goal apiece. Only two of those appearances have come in La Liga, with neither being from the start.

Given the competition for places, which could only increase further, amid links to Manchester City star Ilkay Gundogan, Torre is likely to be loaned out to a first-division team for the next season so that his development does not get affected.
