Barcelona midfielder will decide on his future after winning La Liga title

Sergio Busquets is one of the few Barcelona players whose importance in the team only went up as the years passed. The club captain may be 34 years old now, but he still remains one of the most decisive players on the field for the Catalans.

With his contract running out in June and a renewal not being talked about in a positive sense, there has been a sudden realisation of the dire situation the team will face without him. Xavi is pushing for his former teammate to renew but there has not been a definitive response from the veteran yet.

According to reports from Javi Miguel, the legendary midfielder is intentionally delaying the announcement about his future. He does not wish to divert the attention of the dressing room and the administration at such a critical juncture in the season.

There is a good chance Busquets will make the revelation on the night Barcelona are crowned league champions which could well come in the derby on May 14th. At the moment, there is no clarity over the thoughts running through the captain’s mind.

Some reports earlier in the week suggested that he would sign for an additional season with lowered wages before moving to Saudi Arabia the following year.

However, the latest development does not appear to carry positive news for Xavi and hints towards Busquets leaving at the end of the season.

After all, an announcement stating his continuity for another season would not be seen as a distraction to the dressing room in any way.

The 34-year-old has started 25 La Liga games for Barcelona this season and has four assists to his name. He averages one key pass and ten defensive actions per game and has created four big chances.
