There is no end to Barcelona’s dreams for the summer transfer window. The Catalans wish to make a number of signings including that of Ilkay Gundogan, Inigo Martinez and a right-back amongst others in addition to the pricey affair of Lionel Messi’s return.
Such financially demanding objectives will undoubtedly take a toll on the club’s already fragile finances. Thus, FFP and La Liga’s regulations mandate that the Blaugranas pioneer some big-player sales to create enough leeway for the operations they desire.
One of the players whose sale was being contemplated internally at Spotify Camp Nou was Ansu Fati. The La Masia graduate promised great things when he first debuted for the team but it is clear that he is no longer the same after his chronic injuries.
According to reports from Mundo Deportivo, the Spaniard’s sale is now less likely for two main reasons.
For starters, Fati does not wish to leave the club so early in his career. He feels he has what it takes to succeed under Xavi Hernandez and is confident he’ll restore his form.
Further, Barcelona believe Fati’s market value to have dropped steeply due to his poor form. A sale at this time would not bring in the transfer fee the club wish to make and would render negotiations difficult.
Last month, reports stated that Jorge Mendes assured Barcelona of a €70 million offer for his client in the summer from the Premier League. The situation appears to have changed, however, for the Catalans would have been all over that deal if it were to arrive.
The super-agent was in Barcelona earlier this month to hold talks with Fati’s family. While his entourage are pushing for him to move away from Catalonia, the winger appears adamant about his decision to stay and could well have it his way.
If Fati does continue for another season, however, it could well be his final chance to succeed at Spotify Camp Nou.
