Montpellier have reportedly slapped a price tag of €40m (approx. £34.8m) on striker Elye Wahi, amid interest from several Premier League clubs.
The 20-year-old has been in tremendous form in Ligue 1 and has caught the attention of Liverpool, Arsenal and Tottenham.
Now, Wahi is tipped to leave Montpellier at the end of the season and a switch to the Premier League is looking increasingly likely.
As noted by TEAMtalk, Liverpool are the latest club to join the race for the Frenchman.
This season, Wahi has made 31 league appearances for Montpellier. In the process, he has scored 17 goals and made six assists. This gives him an impressive average of 0.74 goal contributions per game.
Therefore, it’s no real surprise to see top European clubs circling for his signature. As mentioned, Liverpool are one of the clubs in the race, but Arsenal and Tottenham’s interest dates back several months.
With that in mind, we could potentially see a bidding war take place for the youngster’s services this summer.
Montpellier want €40m for Wahi
However, any potential move for Wahi will not come cheap. According to Foot Mercato, Montpellier will demand a minimum of €40m (approx. £34.8m) for him this summer.
The French side ‘will not stand in Wahi’s way’ if someone meets that price, which is expected.
Indeed, along with Liverpool, Arsenal and Tottenham, Borussia Dortmund, Monaco, Eintracht Frankfurt and RB Leipzig all hold an interest in the striker.
As a result, it seems highly unlikely that Wahi will be a Montpellier player next season.
Taking an average of 1.9 shots on target per match, the striker isn’t afraid of shooting from anywhere. He is a physical presence standing at 6ft tall, too, with a clever ability to draw fouls.
Wahi certainly has the attributes required to succeed in the Premier League. Currently, Liverpool are leading the race for the Frenchman. Jurgen Klopp is on the hunt for a replacement for Roberto Firmino, too, so the Reds are likely to bring in a new striker.
However, as mentioned, they will have to put their money where their mouth is to get a deal over the line. Given the level of interest in the striker, we could potentially see a bidding war take place for him this summer.
