Liverpool tipped to launch stunning raid on Aston Villa for star rated as ‘on a par with Bellingham’

Aston Villa's Emiliano Buendia celebrates scoring their side's third goal of the game with team-mate Jacob Ramsey during the Premier League match at Villa Park, Birmingham

Liverpool are being tipped to launch a stunning summer raid on Aston Villa to sign Jacob Ramsey, with the player currently in the form of his life under Unai Emery.

Reds boss Jurgen Klopp is plotting a major rebuild of his midfield this summer and has a number of targets in mind. Liverpool have fallen off their usual high pedestal this season and will finish the campaign without silverware. More worryingly, they may also have to make do without Champions League football with a late surge potentially coming too late.

After plotting a move for Jude Bellingham for most of the season, Liverpool were forced to walk away due to the expenses involved. Indeed, the sheer scale of Liverpool’s rebuild means they could target two other players for the costs needed for the England man.

As a result, the Reds appear to have honed in on two prime targets costing a combined £140m.

However, by widespread reports Liverpool also want a third midfield signing this summer too. With Naby Keita, James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Arthur Melo all exiting this summer, the Reds will be four players down. To that end, Liverpool FC officially confirmed their exits on Wednesday with tributes planned in their final two games of the season.

As such, their need for three new additions certainly makes sense.

The identity of the third target has certainly got some people guessing. Indeed, TEAMtalk revealed earlier this week that the Reds are keeping tabs on one of Spanish football’s brightest stars.

Klopp tipped to launch raid for Jacob Ramsey

Now according to journalist Ryan Taylor, Klopp is also keeping a close eye on Aston Villa star Ramsey.

The midfielder burst on to the scene last season, thriving under Steven Gerrard in the Villa engine room.

When Villa’s results faded, so too did the 21-year-old’s form. And it was no surprise when the Liverpool icon paid the price with his job.

Now under Unai Emery, Ramsey appears to have rediscovered his very best form again. Indeed, he has five goals and six assists to his name this season from 36 appearances in all competitions.

Now Taylor, speaking to Givemesport, reckons a move for Ramsey makes plenty of sense for Liverpool.

“Personally, I think he would be a great fit for someone like Liverpool because of his energy in midfield.

“I would say, lightly, he is a player of a similar ilk to Jude Bellingham. Bellingham is a powerhouse and when you watch him play, he plays with authority and grabs games by the scruff of the neck.

“I don’t think Ramsey will grab games by the scruff of the neck, but I think he has that sort of energy from midfield, arrives in the box and scores goals.”

Villa star rated at £50m-plus

Now regarded as one of Villa’s top midfielders, the club would be loathe to see him leave. And if Liverpool were to bid, it would surely take an offer in excess of £50m.

Now that Emery would even consider such a sale.

The Birmingham-born midfielder will have high hopes of breaking into the England squad if his fine form continues.

Emery clearly rates him highly, describing him as ‘the spirit of the club’.

Back in March, the Spaniard explained why Ramsey is right up his street.

“He is very focused on improving and to take everything we are demanding of him.

“He is from Birmingham and we have to keep players like him. The spirit that he adds – as well as his quality – is very good.”
