Barcelona offered the chance to sign Juventus midfielder as a free agent

Barcelona are in the market looking to reinforce multiple positions across the pitch, starting with defensive midfield. With Sergio Busquets gone, the club no longer has a natural defensive midfielder.

The likes of Martin Zubimendi, Ruben Neves, and Sofyan Amrabat are on Barcelona’s radar, but right now all of their signings are rather difficult. As such, alongside these, the Catalans are also exploring the central midfield market.

Ilkay Gundogan is their primary target to bolster the centre of the park, with the German set to become a free agent in the summer. He has not taken a decision about his future yet, despite Barcelona offering him a three-year deal.

As an alternative, though, Barça have been offered the chance to sign Juventus midfield engine Adrien Rabiot as per a report by Gerard Romero. The Frenchman is also a free agent this transfer market, and will likely be on his way out of Turin.

Rabiot is coming off an impressive season with Juve, though, having scored eight goals and set up four himself across 32 appearances.

Xavi has also confirmed that Barcelona need two signings in midfield, even if the defensive midfield role remains priority.

“I need two signings in midfield. I lack an interior and with Busquets’ departure, we also need a pivot. This has to be the priority,” he said.

Barcelona currently have the likes of Pedri, Gavi, Frenkie de Jong, Franck Kessie, and Pablo Torre competing for two spots in central midfield, but want to sign another midfielder to improve their depth.

Further, with Kessie and Torre linked with an exit, it would be a smart move for Barcelona to keep tabs on the midfielders on the market.
