Barcelona want to finalise centre-back’s €15 million exit this week

For Barcelona to be able to make signings this summer, they need to sanction player sales first. Operating under the 40% rule, the Blaugrana can spend €4 on a new player for every €10 revenue they generate and it is thus pivotal for them to offload stars who do not belong in Xavi’s long-term plans.

While first-team stars like Ansu Fati, Franck Kessie, and Ferran Torres are linked with exits, the La Liga champions will also look to sell most of the players that spent the 2022/23 campaign away on loan, barring Ez Abde and possibly Nico Gonzalez.

One such loanee, whose exit on a permanent transfer appears advanced, is Clement Lenglet. The 27-year-old Frenchman spent the last season on loan at Tottenham Hotspur where he enjoyed a fairly solid campaign.

As such, the Lilywhites are interested in signing the former Sevilla ace permanently, and according to Gabriel Sans of Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona wish to resolve Lenglet’s future by the end of this week and finalise his sale to Tottenham Hotspur.

Talks have already taken place between the two clubs over a possible transfer of the French centre-half.

There have been reports of a sale worth €10-15 million, which would be welcome at Barça. Furthermore, the Catalans will also be getting rid of a player who would be on a sizeable salary next season.

As such, more talks are planned with Tottenham in the coming days and the La Liga champions wish to resolve the matter of Lenglet’s departure this week.

Lenglet played 35 times across all competitions for Spurs during the 2022/23 campaign and even chipped in with a goal and a couple of assists.

With the north London club recently appointing Ange Postecoglou as their new manager, talks over the permanent signing of Lenglet could speed up in the coming days.
